Dr. Scott Root

During the special board meeting held earlier this week on February 24th, the Cassia County School District Board of Trustees selected Dr. Scott Root as our next Superintendent of Cassia County Schools beginning July 2026. Dr. Root would like to introduce himself, and has addressed the following message to all school community members:

Dear Cassia County School District Families and Community Members,

It is an honor to have been entrusted by the Board of Trustees to serve as Superintendent of Cassia County Schools beginning this summer. The schools in Cassia County provide an impressive, holistic education encompassing academics, CTE, FFA, a wide array of clubs, fine arts, activities, and outstanding athletic programs — all of which make a profound difference in the lives of each student entrusted to the district. The seventeen schools within Cassia County are more than buildings where learning takes place; they are venues where families and neighbors come together to support their youth and be part of a caring community.

Cassia County Schools are in an excellent place. Many of the top research-based practices are in place, such as Professional Learning Communities, thoughtful instructional supervision, best pedagogical practices, a curricular review cycle, and student-centered support systems, to name just a few. This is a tribute to the district’s dedicated School Board, leadership, and committed educators. I firmly believe that the greatest impact on student learning stems from the teacher in the classroom, and I am committed to supporting and strengthening their work. My goal is not to reinvent what is working well, but to listen carefully, learn from the community, and build on that strong foundation to create the conditions for each student to thrive.

My connection to this region runs deep. I grew up on a farm downstream from Burley, along the Snake River between Homedale and Wilder, Idaho. Like many families in Cassia County, our livelihood depended on long days of steady work changing irrigation pipes, baling hay, feeding cattle, and caring for the land. Those early experiences instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and responsibility — qualities that define Cassia County. Returning home to serve this community is a dream come true, and I am deeply grateful for your warm welcome and thoughtful hospitality.

For nine years, I taught middle and high school mathematics internationally and at Caldwell High School, from consumer-level courses to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate. Over the past twenty-eight years, I have served as Principal of Parma High School, Director of three international schools, Director of School Operations for Quality Schools International, overseeing thirty-six schools in twenty-six countries, and, currently, as Head of School in Marin County, California. I hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Northwest Nazarene University, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Idaho, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.

As your superintendent, I will be visible, accessible, and present in our schools and at community events. Trust is earned through consistent presence, clear communication, follow-through, and genuine care for each community member — and I am committed to earning that trust every day. Strong schools are built on high expectations paired with robust support systems, ensuring that every student is known, supported, and challenged appropriately. Together, we will continue preparing Cassia County students not only for graduation, but for meaningful careers, service, and lifelong learning.

I look forward to meeting you, so please introduce yourself when we have the opportunity.

With appreciation and much enthusiasm,

Dr. Scott Root
