The Burley High Symphonic Band is comprised of the wind and

percussion students who choose to participate in band while developing

the musical proficiency required for Wind Ensemble or who prefer a

lighter performance schedule. Symphonic band will perform high quality

literature, study music theory and history. Participation in the Symphonic

Band include the responsibility of attending scheduled rehearsals,

performances, as well as membership in the Burley Bobcat Pep Band

during football and basketball season. Travel for some large group

competitions is expected.

The Jazz Band member is expected to be an active participating

member of the Concert Band. There are special considerations for

those who do not play concert band instruments. The Jazz Band is the

premier performing group of the instrumental program. This group

travels regularly and is invited to perform at civic functions. Second

semester is the most active schedule with Clinics, competitions and

concerts. Attending all Jazz Band performances is a course

requirement. This is a co-curricular class, meeting during class on

scheduled days, and meeting many times outside the hours of the

regular school day. Also, Jazz Band members fundraise extensively to

be able to participate in the program. May be repeated for credit.
