Machine Operator Apprenticeship Program Update

Machine Operator Apprenticeship Program Update

On November 10, 2021, Manufacturing industry partners along with Cassia and Minidoka School districts agreed to a schedule change for the Machine Operator Apprenticeship program that has been held for the past four years at Mt Harrison High School. The decision was made to change the time of the class from weekday mornings at 6:30 am to Friday mornings. Classes will be held at High Desert Milk in Burley. Second year students will attend from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and first year students will attend from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. With the change in the schedule, we anticipate more participation from all the schools in the valley. With the change, we have extended the application deadline to November 30th. Any Junior or Senior interested in the program can complete the attached application and submit it to the Idaho Department of Labor in Burley. I am attaching copies of the application along with an information pamphlet for students interested in the program.

The Machine Operator Apprenticeship program was designed to provide employment opportunities to students who may be interested in working in manufacturing and food processing. Juniors and Seniors are our target audience for the program. Students will be required to complete training courses on Fridays at High Desert Milk for two hours per week. Upon completion of the course, students will be interviewed by participating companies and offered work through the summer with wages ranging from $13.00 to $15.00 per hour. Upon completion of the full program, raises will be offered as well as advancement opportunities within the companies. For additional information, you can contact Chet Jeppesen directly at the Idaho Department of Labor at 208-678-5518 ext. 3109.
