Happenings at the Tech Center!

"The Cassia Regional Technical Center is pleased with the School Board’s decision to place a bond on the ballot to upgrade, repair, and expand needed facilities in our district. The students participating in programs at Cassia Regional Technical Center will benefit as a new Diesel Tech shop, a new Residential Construction shop, and a new Electronics/Robotics classroom and lab are built in addition to the remodel of existing facilities. These additions and remodels were recommended by the Citizen’s Facility Committee and we are grateful for their insight and their support of the students who use the Cassia Regional Technical Center and participate in the programs offered."

Rebuilding America's pool of construction workers

When the 2008 recession hit homeowners - and homebuilders - hard, more than 1.5 million residential construction workers left the industry. Fewer than half of those jobs have since been recovered, and few young people are looking to careers in construction, plumbing, welding, and other skilled trades. Mark Strassmann looks at the shortage of skilled labor (desperately needed to build or repair housing in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria) and talks with "This Old House" veteran Norm Abram and Mike Rowe, former host of the series "Dirty Jobs," about reconstituting America's blue-collar work ethic.
