Food Services
-
The Child Nutrition department oversees all aspects of the school food service. Our program is designed to provide healthy breakfast and lunch to the children in the district. Our function is to plan, implement, and direct all aspects of nutrition in order to meet the needs of the children. The Child Nutritional Program is here to provide an environment that supports healthy food habits while maintaining integrity and child satisfaction. We establish quality standard for our food service and we try to develop procedures to ensure the food is safe and nutritious for all students. The Child Nutrition Director develops a cost effective menu that will maintain the nutritional integrity and provide encouraging participation from the students. It is a challenge at times to develop a menu that everyone will enjoy but we attempt it by putting in new items each month for the children to try. Our goal is to help fight hunger and obesity by providing healthy meals to all children in our district.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has sets the guidelines for the free and reduced price meals provided to students in schools operating the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, and for free milk in schools operating the Special Milk Program.
Free and reduced price meals are available for eligible students throughout the state and are announced each year by Idaho State Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs. Qualifying Idaho schools may offer the Special Milk Program. Eligibility is determined by household size and income Qualifying students receive meals or milk without charge or may pay a reduced price of no more than 40 cents for lunch and 30 cents for breakfast.
Children from households with incomes at or below the following levels are eligible for free or reduced price meals or the Special Milk Program if meals are not offered. Applications may be submitted any time during the year. Children of parents or guardians who become unemployed are eligible for free or reduced price meals or for free milk during the period of unemployment, provided that the loss of income causes household income to be within the eligibility criteria. Information provided on an application may be verified at any time during the school year.
